What you see in this video is not a protest. It is the end of the social pact. Five riot police officers, surrounded in the middle of the street by hundreds of people. They advance shield to shield, but they are alone. Around them, a mass that shouts, moves compact, throws objects and follows them without fear. This is France in 2026. Total chaos everywhere. This is no longer a clash between protesters and law enforcement. It is a revolt without a center, without clear demands, without any possibility of dialogue. The police charge, fall back, regroup, but the street stays in the hands of the crowd. In the videos you can hear Arabic being spoken. Many of them are first and second generation. Young people who do not recognize themselves in the Republic, and a Republic that no longer knows how to talk to them. It is a difficult situation. In fact, it seems almost impossible to get out of it. Because when an officer can no longer stand in the middle of the street without risking being overwhelmed, then it is no longer a public order problem. It is a problem of national identity. This is the theme: the social pact is gone.
