Piazza Duomo, Milan: Italian Flag Set on Fire Outside Historic Cathedral – What Is Happening?

Milan, Piazza Duomo. Broad daylight. Tourists, families, children, just meters away from the Cathedral, the heart of Italy and 800 years of European history. And in the middle of it all, an Italian flag is set on fire and left burning on the ground. The video is only 22 seconds long. Raw, shaky, filmed by a passerby. It needs no commentary. The green, white and red burning while people just watch. It is an image that hurts. It is an image that infuriates anyone who loves this country. Because this is not just a piece of cloth. This is not just colors. The Tricolour is who we are. It is our history, our grandparents, our identity. To burn it in Piazza Duomo is to spit on the country that is hosting you. And this is where we must have an honest conversation about integration, and about its total failure in Italy and in Europe. For twenty years we have been told that integration means accepting everything. That we must understand, tolerate, justify. But integration has two sides. It cannot only be the host country that adapts. It must also be the person who arrives who shows respect. Minimum respect. For the laws, for the culture, for the symbols. What kind of integration is it if you go to another country and you burn the flag of the people who welcomed you? What message…
