Milan in Chaos for Second Day: Looting, Smashed Stores and Over 160 Detained – VIDEO From Via Torino. Milan is in chaos for the second day in a row. What you see in the video published by RGX Live happened on Sunday, October 18, in the heart of the city, between Via Torino, Piazza Duomo, Largo Cairoli and Corso Vittorio Emanuele. After the clashes on Saturday 17th during the cost-of-living protests, thousands of very young people gathered in Duomo square following calls spread on social media. What followed was not a demonstration. It was urban guerrilla. Groups, many with faces covered and dressed in black, moved fast in small groups. They ripped apart the outdoor terraces of bars and restaurants, overturned tables, chairs, bins and e-scooters onto the tram tracks to block traffic. In Via Torino, the footage shows piles of chairs and tables stacked in front of shops. Then the attacks on stores. The video clearly shows. Smashed windows of Mango, Champion, Foot Locker, Primark, Vodafone, Nadine. Attempted break-in at La Rinascente in Piazza Duomo and at McDonald’s in the Galleria. Looting of the Carrefour supermarket in Via Torino, where staff barricaded themselves inside. Looting of Decathlon in Piazza Cairoli. Stones, bottles, firecrackers and paper bombs thrown at shop windows and at police. Panic among tourists and shop owners. Many shops lowered their shutters early. The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele was sealed off, historic bars like Camparino, Biffi and Cracco removed their outdoor furniture. The Duomo was closed early to tourists, worshippers were led out through side doors.nThe police response: riot units, helmets, shields, tear gas, water cannons and a police helicopter over the centre. Charges in Via Torino and Cordusio, detentions in Piazza Duomo. The toll: according to Milan Police Headquarters, over 160 people were stopped and taken for identification on Sunday alone, more than 80% minors. On Saturday there were 28 arrests and over 140 officers injured across Italy. A security summit has been called at Palazzo Chigi for Monday, October 19. What the video shows is acts of vandalism and organized looting in the city centre, with heavy damage to shops and public property.
